Review:

Sauron, the Dark Lord, has gathered to him all the Rings of Power, the means by which he anticipates to rule Middle-earth. All he wants in his plans for supremacy is the One Ring, the ring that rules them all, which has fallen into the hands of the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins. In a drowsy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself confronted with an immense task, as his elderly cousin Bilbo hand over the Ring to his care. Frodo must leave his home and make a terrifying journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ring and stop the Dark Lord in his evil purpose.
Since it was first published in 1954, The Lord of the Rings has been a book people have loved. Soaked in supreme magic and other worldliness, its wide fantasy has touched the hearts of young and old equally. Written by Professor J.R.R. Tolkien and comprising of 3 separate books (The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King) The Lord of the Rings was first published by George, Allen and Unwin between 1954 and 1955.
And an outstanding achievement it is; an impressive tale of friendship, love and valor, a book that set the standard for all fantasy novels to come. Tolkien’s descriptive plot beautifully portrays Middle-earth and the journey that the communion undertakes will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
It is hard to put into words the pleasure that can be felt when reading a fantasy book as worthy as this and anybody who has never read it should set aside some time to do so. Is it the finest fantasy book of all time? In my opinion, yes.
There’s no deliverance for a fantasy fan who hasn’t read the gospel of the genre. The impact of The Lord of the Rings is so universal that everybody from George Lucas to Led Zeppelin has seized it for one purpose or another. Not just innovative because it was groundbreaking, The Lord of the Rings is everlasting because it’s the creation of a truly top-shelf mind. Tolkien was an eminent linguist and Oxford professor of dead languages with strong ideas about the significance of myth and story and a deep appreciation of nature. His classic, 10 years in the making, recounts the Great War of the Ring and the closing of Middle-Earth’s Third Age, a time when magic begins to diminish from the world and men rise to dominance. Tolkien cautiously details this evolution with great skill and love, creating in The Lord of the Rings a universal and all-embracing tale, a fairly illustrious classic.
