Review:

For one thing, I was obsessed with the TV show. I also happen to think L.J. Smith is a good narrator. Most of all, though, I love witches. I don’t care if they’re ugly or green and fly around on brooms like the Wicked Witch of the West. I don’t care if they use batons and are really smart like Hermione. I don’t care if they are fair-haired and own a talking cat like Sabrina the Teenage Witch. And I don’t care if they’re young, beautiful, self-centered, and headed for devastation like the male and female witches in The Secret Circle trilogy.
I am not overstating when I say this book blew me away. The Captive rocked my socks! It has now become one of my favorite books of all time.
It’s short and pretty simple. I read it within 2 hours and the more I got into the story, the more devoted I became.
I loved the fact that 3 people were murdered in or nearby the school but it is never really investigated. The police show up, don’t find any evidences and that’s that. They don’t conduct investigations, there are no suspects, no captures, nothing. The school doesn’t even get closed or anything. I can’t express to you how many lulls that gave me. Even thinking about it now makes me laugh.
Cassie makes some really senseless decisions. Like when she goes to the churchyard in the middle of the night. Even though just a few hours earlier they saw a furtive and possibly dangerous ghost prowling around. Like I said, these things didn’t bother me at all. I relished in this book flaws. I love it more because of its defects.
The key character of this book, Cassie, did a complete turnaround regarding her attitude. In the last book she was immature and thankful for the kindness people showed her, and shy. In this book she’s mean. She’s jittery and spiteful and easily ticked off and more daring, I suppose.
This book also helped me realize that I am 98% sure that I am falling for Nick. And for no reason, too. He’s still a godforsaken paradox. I don’t know anything about him. Other than he’s a big, surly, menacing, silent, sulky, uncaring, alcoholic, and cigarette smoking handsome devil. And that there’s a minor chance he might like Cassie.
And now I want them to end up together, dammit! I mean, yeah, I like Adam but he’s just so good.
I need adventure and a little bit of romance and volatility. I mean, Cassie needs adventure and a little bit of romance and volatility.
Hear my appeal, oh great L.J. Smith! Allow Cassie and Nick to be together forever!
The Captive is now a favorite of mine. I don’t care how imprudent or juvenile it seems. I love it. I can’t wait to read The Power!
